We'd like to say a huge thank you to all those who purchased cards this month in aid of the puppies in the suitcase and we'll bring you a full up-date on their progress from the Dogs Trust in due course. The lucky winner of the pet portrait, whose name was chosen completely at random is Elaine Wilson from Fife. Well done Elaine! And our plucky pups in the suitcase prompted journalist David Hamill from Northern Ireland to send us the following story of
abandoned pups with a happy ending and a happy birthday!!
Also this month we've got a brand new set of inspirational cards with a musical theme. As my own dog Tosca's name was inspired by my love of music I'm delighted to be selling these fabulous cards designed by opera singer Sarah Gabrielle. Click here to purchase.
Dog Day Afternoon By David Hamill
From being found in a carrier bag to being lavished with gifts – last month marked a remarkable turnaround for Spencer as he held a double birthday celebration with his best friend Jovi.
Liverpool woman Rosalyn Allan, 31, organised the party, which marked Spencer’s 3rd and Jovi’s 2nd birthdays. It included running through slaloms and jumping through hoops. Guests included their next door neighbour, chocolate brown Labrador Henry, golden Labrador Poppy, black mongrel Meg and black terrier Ben. The customer services assistant said: “The main reason why I’m doing this for them is that I don’t have any other family. I haven’t got any kids so they’re my family. “Fortunately a lot of my friends have got dogs so you know they’re going to enjoy this sort of thing. They own quite sociable dogs that get on well with each other. It’s nice for us to get together as well.”
The occasion marks a stark contrast for Spencer, who was found in a carrier bag when just a day old. Rosalyn said: “Whoever owned him and the rest of his litter just binned them and they were found by the RSPCA.I quickly decided he would come and live with me.” While they remain inseparable, their personalities are couldn’t be different. “Spencer is more jealous because he was hand reared,” said Rosalyn. “He grew up in a human environment so he’s going to display those kind of emotions. As for Jovi, on one hand he’s a guard dog – he wouldn’t let anyone in unless invited – but with everyone else he’s extremely well behaved. He’s especially good with children and disabled people. He would sense that, and react accordingly by being more cautious.
Rosalyn has every intention of keeping these parties going for quite sometime yet.
“I’ll be doing this next year, and it’ll be bigger and better.” Luckily for Jovi and Spencer it appears some mothers do ‘ave ‘em.
